CASE STUDY: Light colored (and smooth) vehicular pavers

PROBLEM: Staying Light

SOLUTION: TWO COATS of our coating process

This scenario was a condo in Miami. During the building phase, it was determined that they would install a light-colored, tumble marble paver. We were shocked and campaigned heavily against this as a horrendous idea that would be a long-term challenge to keep clean.

This has been one of our biggest challenges to date. Two glaring issues were keeping the white surface clean while also avoiding slipperiness. The surface had to be either sealed or coated. The protection would have to be a solution that would cure on the surface (not a penetrating sealer). Any common sealer would have to be re-applied every year or so. That was out, as this was the vehicular entrance to a very large commercial property. The only solution was to apply the coating process offered by National Sealing Co.

We solved the staining issue. Actually, in a vehicular scenario, we even advise applying two coats, but in these cases, it is typically not in the construction budget and is deferred to the operational budget. But that’s another story.

There was still one complication. How do you protect a smooth surface with surface protection while also making it non-slip? The answer is a light application of our non-skid media (keeping in mind this was a vehicular entrance).

The solution was to apply our permanent coating process and broadcast anti-slip media to the surface, creating a permanently sealed, non-slip surface.
