CASE STUDY: Restoration of Faded Pavers at Strip Mall
PROBLEM: Half of pavers faded by partial shading
SOLUTION: Coloring using Nano Technology
This scenario was a strip mall that had neglected maintaining their pavers (sealing), and there was a distinct and noticeable ‘line’ going down the length of the walkway. The outside edge that had been more exposed to the sun was faded, and the inside edge still had some of the color.
This was a good lesson in sealing or protecting the pavers. The sun will fade the pigment used in a minimum of 4 years. Sealing pavers, or as offered by National Sealing Co, coating the pavers, for more durability and longevity is absolutely necessary to protect from fading as well as staining.
In this case, it was too late for any type of sealing to try to revive the pavers. The options would be to try to paint (in house staff), and perhaps even stain the pavers. Painting the surface would not only create a smoother surface and slip hazard, but would be a challenge to maintain as the paint would begin to wear in the high traffic areas (entrance to shops). Another option would be to STAIN the surface. Although the stain would penetrate to some extent, the customer thought the end result would give a ‘painted’ look and would resemble more of a uniformed, stamped concrete look that isn’t much better that just keeping the faded pavers in place.
A unique option offered by National Sealing Co. is utilizing the latest in sealing technology or nano-technology. We have developed a formula for coloring a clear nano sealer. Although the surface would be one color, the nano coloring concept is translucent, therefore allowing a hint of the previous variations in color to still show through. This results in a revitalized look with just a small risk to the original color combination.
