CASE STUDY: Porcelain Tile in Restaurant
PROBLEM: Very slippery floors both entering the restaurant and staff exiting kitchen
This situation was an existing space that was being converted into a restaurant. Were not sure of the previous business, but the establishment had porcelain tile throughout. A smooth tile surface combined with grease from kitchen and patrons wet feet coming in from the outside was a recipe for disaster.
SOLUTION: Anti slip application
This smooth surface needed to be altered by the addition of non skid aggregate. There are many do it yourself chemicals on the market that claim to etch the surface, or create small suction cups for gripping. As the products get introduced to the market, we try each in hopes of adding that product to our offerings. So far, were sticking with our coating process*. This process utilizes our tile coating, we then broadcast aggregate or non skid sand onto the first layer of coating. The sand is then locked in by a top layer of coating. This not only permanently sets the aggregate, but makes the surface easier for clean up. Leaving the aggregate exposed would be difficult to clean as a mop would leave lint behind.
